decking the halls could be hazardous to your health. from hanging decorations to lacerations from broken glass ornaments. the number of holiday related injuries are on the rise. the report says 13,000 people were treated in the er for related injuries last year. that's up from 12,000 the two prior years. >> the news keeps coming. here is bryce with the news edge at 11:00. >> a scary crash in maryland. a school bus rammed into that building injuring several people. the twist to this, this morning in waldorf. learning more about what led to all of this. the driver is charged with assault and malicious destruction of property. she was released this evening on a $25,000 bond. here's what we know about what happened. we learned that what happened today stem frd some kind of conflict with a coworker that started a week ago.

>> teresa, a veteran prince georges county bus driver arrested after police say she purposely rammed her bus into this building. three of her coworkers who were inside were injured and taken to the hospital. so what prompted this rage? >> sources say douglas went to her supervisor wednesday to report she was being harassed by one of her coworkers. management and the school system had a meeting with her friday. during that meeting, management informed her that they did an investigation, but they didn't find any evidence of any harassment. so monday, douglas went to court to get a peace order against the coworker. >> but the judge dismissed the case. it's our understanding that she was upset about that decision. >> while she was in court, the coworker she was mad with was transferred to another location. then wednesday morning at 5:45 when douglas came to work. >> she got into her bus and drove that bus into a trailer. that trailer is like a portable building, a makeshift trailer,

and she drove directly into the lounge area where people were in fact inside. >> fortunately, the three injured coworkers were okay. douglas worked as a bus driver since 1998. sources say she has no history of any kind of problems. the school district says douglas has been placed on administrative pay pending the outcome of the investigation. >> on her facebook page, douglas posted some things yesterday saying this was her last time on facebook and she finally finished fighting and ready to go to jail. she didn't offer any other explanations on facebook. by the way, there could be more disciplinary action once the investigation by the school district is done. brian. >> wisdom martin tonight. an update on last thursday's deadly virginia tech shooting. police knew an suv stolen was on campus hours before campus officer was shot and killed. the dispatch is reporting a blacksburg police knew the suv

was parked at 9:30 on thursday morning. derek was shot to death nearly three hours later. 22-year-old ross ashley shot himself after killing crouse. he was a part-time student at radford university. a string of unsolved rapes and one murder coming back to the forefront. investigators will announce a new effort to find the potomac river rapist. the attacks began in montgomery county. they ended with the murder of christine in d.c. in 1998. a joint task force will renew their search for the rapist. they will unveil their plans tomorrow, including a website to take tips. new tonight, police need your help finding christmas vandals in virginia. a fairfax man's home security camera caught three people under a destructive run through a christmas display doing thousands of dollars in damage. fox 5's laura evans is on this one tonight. >> who does this? who does this?

michael lester put up spectacular christmas displays every year, which draws thousands of visitors, but early sunday morning around 4:00 a.m., three vandals who appear to be teenage boys played the role. lester's home security cameras caught it all. smashing and destroying several plastic and inflatable decorations with baseball bats. they also targeted a giant inflatable santa's workshop. and then as if that wasn't enough, as they left, they drove their car through part of the display, damaging it and leaving tire marks in the yard. total amount of damage here, 7 to 10,000 worth. lester says the response from the community has been wonderful. when neighbors heard what happened, they helped get the display up and running again sunday night. but lester wants the vandals to know what they did was wrong. >> i hope that at some point in time they realize that their

actions have a greater meaning than they think and they take some responsibility for this. i don't want anybody to pay me back. i don't want anybody to get in trouble with the police. but it would be nice to think at some point in time, they woke up and had some awareness that there were things more important than their saturday night. >> and he's still in the christmas spirit. we are told that the vandals were driving a silver ford taurus. did not get a surveillance photo. police are still investigating this one, brian. >> i would like to say i would like to see him get paid back and i would like to see those kids get in trouble with police. >> i'm with you. >> it may have been meant as a joke. no one thinks this thing is funny. a group of texas airmen posing in a casket. the controversy sparked an air force investigation. will thomas is taking a closer look now. will. >> you aren't going to like this one. the u.s. death toll as many of

you know in iraq and afghanistan is now more than 6,000. about 6300. with so many lives lost, a photo that may have been meant as a joke has become another black eye for the air force. already this year, dover air force base in delaware is under the spotlight for sloppy handling of the remains of u.s. military war dead. and now, a photo. a photo you're not going to like. it was taken back in august. 15 airmen are seen posing with an open casket, another live airmen, he is perfectly fine. he is posing standing up in the casket with a noose around his neck. at the bomb toff of the photo, the dump the dumped, sucks to be you. a congressman we spoke to tonight with oversight over the air force is confident the internal investigation will be sufficient. >> i have trust that secretary donald and the air force leadership will take the appropriate action to get those airmen together that were part of this and take appropriate action. and i know that they feel

disturbing report in afghanistan. american soldiers cold and hungry at isolated posts. fox 5 has the followup. >> they were collecting items donated to a manassas real estate firm to send to our troops for christmas. the mother, sister, and girlfriend of army specialist, doug greene, telling us soldiers in greene's platoon still in afghanistan sometimes distant outposts want more than just stocking stuffers, but blankets and food. >> four weeks before he died, he was skypeing me saying he was having one mre a day, which is those freeze-dried meals and everything else was the things that we packaged in the boxes. he was hungry daily. but didn't really want me to tell anybody about it because he was afraid there could be backlash or he wanted to suck it up. >> but greene's family and friends say they wouldn't. they couldn't ignore it any longer.

now filling the wishes of troops outside greene's unit. turning to a website called anysoldier.com. >> by adopting a soldier. >> the site matching troops in the field with donors back home. more than a few begging for blankets. >> and the guy who i adopted. he's like, i'm freezing at night. can you please send me a blanket. it's getting really cold here. >> we always say take care here at home first, but here we have people over in afghanistan fighting for us that are cold and hungry and i was appalled. >> army brass says it finds the story unbelievable. they give soldiers everything they need. and in an e-mail to fox 5 news, an army spokesman explains there is no evidence that soldiers even in the most remote outposts are without food or the equipment to keep them warm and safe. >> we have plenty of stuff in afghanistan. we have plenty of means to

distributing this stuff. but it is an on going challenge and it tends to have breakdowns. >> michael is an expert on the war in afghanistan. >> i'm going to take the word of these individual soldiers that they are hungry and cold, but as for the explanation, i think that's probably more complicated and certainly not a lack of overall army effort at the mission or overall pipeline to get stuff through. there's a more specific tackty call breakdown in this case. >> a spokesman for u.s. and nato forces in afghanistan tells us it's possible interruptions to resupply lines in the more remote areas of afghanistan could create temporary shortfalls, but he says every effort is made to make sure those are kept to a minimum. in the newsroom, bob barnard, fox 5 news. coming up here on the news edge, no electronic devices during takeoff, except for the pilots. why a few ipads could save

american airlines pilots will be allowed to use ipods in the cockpit. federal aviation administration is give the airline permission to use the ipad starting

friday. it ran rigorous tests to make sure there would be no interference from the electronics. passengers will be required to power theirs off. replacing heavy paper manuals that can weigh up to 40-pounds could save the carrier up to 500,000 pounds of fuel a year. some changes at a congested intersection. plus a disturbing trend among teens. your fox 5 top 5. >> we begin tan alarming study about teenagers and pot. number 5, a new study shows they don't see smoking marijuana as a risk. the national institute of drug use surveyed 47,000 10th graders. smoking pot on a daily or near daily basis. that's the highest rate since 1981. researchers also found that 1 in 9 high school seniors tried synthetic marijuana within the last year. nearly 4 in 10 americans say

top 5. >> it's only thursday, tomorrow. we think it should be friday, everyone. how about you? >> we are getting over the hump. >> today's hump day and at least the weather, we don't have a lot we can complain about. it will be cloudy tomorrow, so if you like the sun, you might have a beef with us. but temperature wise, it's not going to be bad at all. we will be dodging a few showers late tomorrow afternoon and into the evening. but nothing terribly heavy either. it is just a front that will be coming on through. behind it, we will likely see temperatures dropping and a little bit of a breeze during the day tomorrow. here's where the moisture is. you can see that out to our west. again, this is going to probably dry up quite a bit of it. certainly looks more substantial out here out to the west. but as it comes across the mountains and the time of day, we are not dealing with a lot, certainly well under a half an

inch and a few tenths of an inch or a few hundredths for some of us. mild and breezy, morning commute is dry. probably midday is dry, some showers around for the evening commute, we think, and they should be pulling out of town by 11:00. now for friday, the clouds are going to linger. temperatures not quite as mild. we may brighten up later in the day, but one last little piece of energy riding along the front could produce a little bit of light rain or maybe even a rain/snow mix friday in the overnight hours. primarily across central virginia. we'll keep an eye on this because the models continue to keep pushing it to the north. no precipitation to worry about and not that chilly. 40 degrees. the suburbs will drop into the 30s. you can thank the clouds for that. the winds are going to pick up tomorrow. definitely closer to 20 miles per hour as the front closes in. the morning will stay dry. a few showers around in the afternoon at 57 degrees. so here's how your planner looks for thursday.

43 degrees at 8:00 in the morning. by noon, up to 54 degrees. again, some places will get more than that. and if we see some showers, it will be closer to the afternoon rush hour with the temperature of 55 degrees. meanwhile, today's temperature not bad at all. 50 degrees. bwi got up to 50 degrees. a good 6, 7, or 8 degrees warmer than that. high temperatures today, we are definitely warmer than what we are seeing there. we saw a lot of places in the mid 50s and near 60 just to the west of us. that's why we know we are in for a mild one tomorrow. temperature right now, 45 degrees. that's not too far from what the average high should be. front will swing on through later in the day tomorrow. the cooler air will follow and then we'll watch to see what happens friday night with that last little bit of moisture. it is going to be getting cooler. temperatures in the 40s. monday about 48 degrees and temperatures at night in the 30s. come on back, talking about
